Pedal Paddle Finland!
Into the finish wilderness for 10 days by kajak was one of the most beautiful experiences I made so far. What was really stunning is, that even about 3 days paddeling to a very lonely place there was some reception for the mobile phone. Well this is Finland, technical wonderland!
Ok back to the trip which took place in the huge Saimaa lakesystem into Linnansaari and Kolovesi Nationalpark. This time the weather was unbelievable great for Finland, not only for Finland because there was 9 days sunshine!
Only one single hour it was quite cloudy, but in the evening the sky was clear again, amazing!
The best part of course is to camp outside and the hardest part was to choose one of these many islands for the night, because every single island looked so beautiful and it was a difficult choice to make. Finally there was a decision and a cozy night on soft moss followed.
Everyones right is really an awesome thing, what I miss in some other european countries, if everyone respects the guidance to leave no garbage and leave the places like they were before it would be no problem. But apparently some people do not respect nature as we all outdoor lovers do… Usually I even clean fireplaces up, which were not there before. In Nationalparks anyway it is only allowed to light a fire in specific fireplaces.
Finish “ruska” is famous for its coloured leaves and the atmosphere around nature. I guess a kayak trip during ruska must be breathtaking and eyecandy at its best, but of course the days get colder as well and rain is more probable than in summertime.
Mid of September there already was some fog in the morning.
In the evening it got quickly fresh but the sunsets are taking long times due Finland is on the northern hemisphere.
What is highly recommending is to get some knowledge about berries and mushrooms before the trip, so you could create some special dinners!
And of course best ever of Finland is Sauna! Some campsites even have a sauna which can be heated with firewood and what else is more worth than relaxing during sunset in a sauna after an exhausting paddling day?
